Inflammation or irritation of the lining of the stomach is called Gastritis.
Why it occurs?
Causes are-
- Infections: Most common cases it is caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria. It may be transmitted through contaminated food or water. Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Viral infections, Fungal (yeast) infections, Parasites and worms may also cause it.
- Medications such as aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs
- Chronic vomiting
- Stress
- Pernicious Anemia
- Backflow of bile from the bile tract into the stomach
- After radiation treatment for cancer
- Autoimmune diseases
What are the Symptoms?
There is no symptom in many people. However, the most common Symptoms include:
- Pain in the upper abdomen: It is the most common symptom. Usually it occurs in upper central part of the abdomen. Sometimes pain occurs in left upper portion of abdomen and back. Sometimes chest pain may occur. Many people think wrong about it that, they have heart problems. But, it’s for Gastritis (But, please call a doctor if you have any type of chest pain because you can diagnose wrong). Pain feels like burning, aching, gnawing, or soreness etc.
- Abdominal Bloating
- Burning feeling in the stomach
- Nausea or Vomiting
- Indigestion
- Vomiting blood
- Black sticky, very foul-smelling stools/ blood in stool
- Belching
- Hiccups
- Loss of appetite
What are the Complications?
- Gastric or Peptic ulcer
- Gastric polyps
- Stomach cancer
