Common Oral Surgery Procedures
Most people underestimate the complexity of dental issues. This leads to people treating dental problems temporarily and then running into bigger and more severe problems later on. It is not uncommon to see people ignore the need of oral surgeries procedures. Every individual must make an attempt to learn and understand these problems to make educated choices when it comes to treating these problems. Some of the common oral surgery procedures include:
Removal of Tooth (Teeth)
This is one of the most common oral surgery procedures. This procedure may include removal of one or more teeth as per the severity and extent of the issue. The need for tooth extraction may arise for a number of reasons. One of the leading causes that turn most people towards a dentist is the problem with wisdom tooth. Problems with wisdom tooth may lead to infection, decay of tooth, and pain and discomfort. Other reasons include dead teeth due to decay, accidental damage requiring tooth removal, etc.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are more of a choice procedure than needed. Anyone who has lost one or more teeth for any of the reasons mentioned above or anything else can choose to get a dental implant. A dental implant surgery instills fake teeth, usually made of titanium, into the jaw. The tooth (or teeth); are placed finely in the mouth that they look exactly like rest of the natural teeth. This is a common procedure and does not expose the patient to a lot of pain or discomfort. The recovery time is rather short too.
Jaw Surgery
Jaw surgeries are needed procedures to correct jaw problems. Severe cases of temporomandibular joint disorders (commonly known as TMJ), malformation of the jaw, trauma to the jaw due to an accident, etc. can all be corrected through jaw surgeries. These corrective procedures help in reducing the discomfort, and alleviating the pain.
This is not an exhaustive list of oral surgery procedures. These are just the most common ones with tooth removal being the most common. If you can relate to any of the conditions mentioned above, or feel that you can sense some sort of discomfort in your mouth during talking, biting, or chewing, you should consult your dentist. Your dentist will then be able to recommend you the proper treatment.
