Earwax is produced by glands in the skin on the outer part of the ear canal. It is medically referred to as cerumen. You may think it’s useless. But, purpose of this wax is to trap dust and other small particles and not allowing them to reach and damage the eardrum. Normally, the wax dries up and falls out of the ear with trapped dust or debris.
Why it occurs?
Secretion of an excessive amount of earwax and not clearing it effectively may cause it. When people try to clean ears on their own by placing cotton swabs or other items, it may push wax deeper into ear and result in blockage.
What are the Signs and Symptoms?
- Fullness or plugged feeling in ear
- Ringing in the ear
- Ear pain or discomfort
- Dizziness
- Temporary/ partial hearing loss
- Ear noise (tinnitus)
